  21. Another reason its so common, perhaps, is that an IDE "controller" is really nothing 
  22. more than a set of line drivers and/or buffers.  The hard drive has all the 
  23. necessary electronics to "hook up" and work without much more needed.  This makes an 
  24. IDE "interface" really, really cheap to design and implement.
